What does the free AI visibility check measure, and what does it not?
It records what AI engines answered to real patient questions in your area, and whether your name appeared. It is not a quality rating and it is not a ranking.
The check asks AI engines with an official API (ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode; Perplexity in North America) the questions patients actually ask in your district, in the patient's language, and keeps the answers. Then it looks for your name. The result is a count: in how many of the sampled answers were you named, by which engine, and how.
It samples. Nobody can see every conversation patients have with AI, so the check is a fixed set of questions asked on a schedule. That makes it comparable week to week, which is the point.
It is not an assessment of medical quality, and it is not a ranking of dentists. An engine naming you first says only that, for that question, on that day, your facts were the ones it could use.
The website check that runs alongside it is deterministic: it reads your page the way a crawler does and lists what is missing, from robots rules to structured data. No AI model is involved in that part.

No. The first measurement of each area is paid for once; after that the weekly Google readings are shared by everyone in the area.
Why does my result differ from what I see in ChatGPT?
Answers vary by phrasing, day and location. The check asks a fixed set of questions so that changes over time are visible; a single manual query is one sample.
